The Halo Physiotherapy Pessary Fitting Process – What to Expect
Considering a pessary for pelvic organ prolapse. At Halo Physiotherapy, we ensure a smooth and professional fitting experience, offering expert guidance and aftercare. Our goal is to ensure your pessary is comfortable, effective, and suited to your lifestyle.
Here’s what to expect when you visit Halo Physiotherapy for a pessary fitting.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
Your first appointment is thorough and personalised. We take the time to understand your concerns, symptoms, and medical history before deciding if a pessary is the right solution for you. During this session, we will:
Assess your pelvic health – looking at muscle strength, vaginal tissue integrity, and prolapse severity.
Measure for the correct pessary size – ensuring an optimal fit if a pessary is appropriate.
Discuss benefits, risks, and alternatives – so you can make an informed decision.
If a pessary is suitable for you, we will order your custom-sized pessary and book you in for your fitting.
Step 2: Pessary Fitting Appointment
Once your pessary arrives, we will:
Fit the pessary and ensure maximum comfort.
Teach you how to remove and insert it yourself, if self-management is an option.
Check its effectiveness with movement and bladder emptying.
Provide aftercare instructions on cleaning, wear duration, and what to watch out for.
For those who cannot self-manage their pessary, we offer regular follow-ups and pessary replacement services.
Step 3: Follow-Up Care
4-6 week review – to check for any irritation, discomfort, or adjustments needed.
3-6 month follow-up – for ongoing monitoring.
Pessary replacement (every 3-5 years, depending on use and pessary)
At Halo Physiotherapy, we are dedicated to your pelvic health and ensure your pessary remains a comfortable and effective long-term solution.
